SUMMIT OF MEDITERRANEAN TOWNS & LOCAL AUTHORITIES WILL ASSEMBLE 350 DELEGATES

This morning, the Representative of New Technologies, Francisco Salas, and the Executive Secretary of the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF), Alain Clerc, presented the main event of the Summit of the Mediterranean Digital Space: SUMMIT OF MEDITERRANEAN TOWNS & LOCAL AUTHORITIES, that will be celebrated in the Palace of Congresses of Malaga on October 2nd & 3rd, under the motto “Innovative funding for a digital area in the Mediterranean”. At the event, organized jointly by the City Council of Malaga and the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF), in collaboration with the Club Malaga Valley, 350 City Council delegates of the Governments and main institutions of the countries of the Mediterranean will participate.

The Summit will look for the collaboration of companies and institutions to reduce the digital gap and promote the essential framework for the strengthening of technologies for information and communication (TIC), as well as the cooperation and the development of the region with the objective to make Malaga the Hub of the Digital Arena of the Mediterranean. One of the objectives of this Summit is the creation in Malaga of a Permanent Secretary of New Technologies for the Mediterranean, with the mandate to promote these projects and to hold an annual conference with the objective of creating a greater awareness of the advantages of the new technologies and of the way in which they can transform the activities and the life of the people.

Within the Summit of Cities and Local Governments of the Mediterranean the launch of the project “I am Mediterranean” will be made. The actor Antonio Banderas is part of the group of personalities and celebrities that will launch the project “I am Mediterranean”.


The Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF), made up of 25 charter members (15 national states, 8 cities and regions, an international organization and a private company), has the objective to eliminate the barriers to the access to Information Technology  that exist between the richest countries and the developing countries, and to build a society that shares  Information to everyone.


The City Council of Malaga is a founding member of the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF). In addition Malaga is the first Spanish city that belongs to this organisation as a member of its plenary session.
